# About the NHS

The NHS was launched in 1948.

It was born out of a long-held ideal that good healthcare should be available to all, regardless of wealth – one of the NHS's core principles. Except for some charges, such as prescriptions, optical services and dental services, the NHS in Altis remains free at the point of use for all residents.

The NHS in deals with over 400 patients every 36 hours. It covers everything, including antenatal screening, routine screenings (such as the NHS Health Check), treatments for long-term conditions, transplants, emergency treatment and end-of-life care.

# Structure

The NHS is structured by a singular trust.

Each trust has the same command structure.

A singular Consultant (CST) is the face of the trust. Their main focus is the upkeep of both their command members & the individual members. This includes discipline when needed. Two Surgeons (SUR) are the second-hand men/women to their CST. They are to also ensure the upkeep of their trust. They may also work on discipline when necessary. HR is not a 'Trust', they are a division in the NHS and have their Lead (CST) and their deputy (SUR).
